Jackdaw feeding in my garden......................................... ever the opportunist

I captured this Jackdaw feeding on the suet balls... it was the first time I had seen one hanging off the feeders

Jackdaws have a reputation for inquisitiveness and opportunism.
Lovely birds I see nearly every day on the rooftops... but not that often in the garden.

Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula).............................................................................

I saw two Bullfinches in my garden yesterday... the male has been around for a couple of weeks...
....he has been joined by a female.

The male has rose-pink cheeks and underparts the female is drab grey below.

They were both back this morning and I managed a video clip.
The female is feeding first (with a Goldfinch) then the more colourful male.

It's been pouring with rain.... but I have had some amazing birds in the garden

It's been a terrible day weather wise and all my plans went out the window.
The rain has been quite heavy today (the sun is now shining as I write)
I have had a Bullfinch on the feeders nearly every day for a fortnight... today I had two.
I captured the male in this video clip... a sorry sight in the wet.

Highlight of the afternoon was a visit from a Great Spotted Woodpecker.
The regulars were all feeding in the rain but "hoover" the Woodpigeon was looking a bit forlorn.
The entire video was captured through the window.

Capturing my garden Wood Mouse................................................ wasn't easy

I took quite a few images of my garden Wood Mouse a coupe of weeks ago... many were deleted.

My little Wood Mouse is to cute to see...  feeding on the seeds dropped from the bird feeders.

Wood Mice don't stay still for long... as most of the images showed.

I even ended up with quite a few like this... of nothing.

They are very quick movers.... but so lovely to watch.

A lovely little creature to see in the garden... and not a threat to my house.

The squirrel proof feeder................................. doesn't deter the Wood Mouse

This feeder is six foot off the ground... he climbed up the fence...
 ...and jumped!

He really is a determined little critter... and doesn't eat as much as the squirrels.

The Bullfinch is still visiting my garden.............................................................

I was so pleased to see the Bullfinch in my garden last weekend... it's not a bird I see that often.

Well he's still visiting my garden feeders...  and the sunflower hearts are going down a treat.

I fill my feeders with sunflower hearts, peanuts and nyger seed... plus suet balls.
I am getting over twelve different bird species regularly in my little garden on a daily basis...

...the plants are coming into flower... it's all looking good.

Greenfinch........................ the bird that started me birdwatching 50 years ago

Greenfinches are lovely colourful birds I see on my feeders...
... and the bird species that got me bird watching way back in 1963.

I was at my best friends birthday party (aged 8) his birthday present was a bird table plus seed.
During the afternoon it attracted some lovely green birds... birds I had never seen before...I was hooked.

This little fella was on the garden feeder this evening...so lovely to see.

Bullfinch in my garden............................... I managed to capture a few images

When we first spotted the male Bullfinch on the feeders the nearest thing to hand was the camcorder.

I managed to capture some video clips through the window.
(please scroll down to view the last two posts)

The Bullfinch returned again yesterday evening and I managed to grab the camera for a few images...
...as I said in the earlier posts this was only the fifth time I have seen a Bullfinch in my garden in nine years.
A lovely little bird to see in the garden.

Three species of finch on my garden feeders....................................................

Yesterdays Bullfinch was back in the garden a few times today... joined by Gold and Greenfinches.

The clips I have put together were captured through the window... nervous birds are the finches.

Bullfinch on the garden feeder............................... loving the sunflower seeds

This is the first video clip I have captured of a male Bullfinch visiting my garden...
... and only the fifth time I have seen one in my garden in nine years.

I get to see some colourful birds on the feeders... but this one is a little bit special.

River Weaver reed beds................................................. plans for the weekend

I have a free Saturday morning coming up hopefully.
(life's been pretty unpredictable so far this year).

My local river (The River Weaver) has some mature reed beds between Acton Bridge and Duttons Lock.

The aim is to spend the morning sitting on my backside capturing images of the warblers.
Reed and Sedge Warblers are in good numbers and singing well... far easier to hear than to see.

Juvenile Sedge Warbler captured last summer.

It's a short walk up to the locks so my knees should be okay...

...there are plenty of grassy places to sit patiently (in dry weather) letting the birds come to you.

Reed Warbler.
It's been a day of heavy rain... so fingers crossed the weather changes for the weekend.

Starling............................................................................ on the fat ball feeder

I have spent most of this weekend out in the garden... tidying up and planting a few new flowers.

The Starlings are enjoying the fat balls...

... and are probably the most colourful birds I have in my garden at the moment.

I hope to get out walking next weekend so hopefully have more wildlife to share.
