Update on my knees........................................................................................

I am back at home recovering after having my knees operated on last night.
Arthroscopy is a "keyhole" operation that is used to look inside and treat joints especially the knee joint.
It is performed through very small cuts in the skin, using a narrow tube like telescope called an arthroscope.

 My left knee...

...and my right.

Three holes in each knee stitched up with dissolvable stitches.
I have tube bandages to support my knees... rolled down so I could take these images.

I went for my operation at 7.15 yesterday evening and it was about 2 hours later when I woke up from the anaesthetic feeling quite sore until they gave me some morphine.

I had a session of physiotherapy this morning and have been given a set of exercises to do.
 I was discharged at 11am.
I am still sore and taking painkillers to numb the pain.... nothing too serious though.

It will be a while before I know how successful the surgery has been.
Another trip booked for physio next week then a follow up with the surgeon a week later.

Many thanks for all your kind comments and support.

  7. Ooooh! that looks sore! Feet up and a spell of armchair birdwatching, with lots of tea and sympathy, looks like just the ticket to aid your recovery Andrew. Take it steady and you'll be back to full fitness in no time!...[;o)

I always find the Bells helps to numb the pain. Any pain. :-)

  9. Andrew, I hope that you will have a satisfactory outcome and heal rapidly. It is amazing how arthroscopic surgery is so great an improvement over the open operations that used to be the only option.

  11. I had an arthroscopy & microfracture op around 3 years ago - just my L knee. I must say I was very surprised, I was completely pain-free after the procedure. Mind you, where there's no sense.....!
All I will say is - do the exercises!
    Good luck with your recovery.

  12. Oh, I should add I can run again (slowly!) - currently doing around 24 miles a week. Walking long distances is okay too - so the op had SOME benefit!

  14. Exercise is very important in your recovery, try swimming this will keep the weight off of your knees but will give you lots of movement. Heal quickly my friend.

  21. OUCH!!!! Now, I know I do not want my hip done. I have always heard the key is the physical therapy afterwards. Hope yours is a speedy recovery. You were definitely a brave one to do both knees at the same time. They do look a bit swollen. genie
