Nuthatch seeking sunflower seeds............ and making friends in the process

When the Nuthatches were on the feeder they only had one seed on their minds.

...everything else was scattered in the search...

...much to the delight of the birds below...

Robin was having a wonderful time with plenty of choice.

...as the search continued.

Success!... or should that be suck seed?... sorry.

A black sunflower seed makes it all worthwhile.

Ah, such intelligence, Andrew. Though it takes a good eye, as you have here, to depict it.

I only put out black oil sunflower seed, so the scattering doesn't happen. What the nuthatches do is pick up every seed, weigh it, pick the meatiest one and then fly off. Soon back for another and repeat performance. Some they eat, some they are stashing in our woodpile for colder weather.

we get that here, too. the chickadees and titmice are terrible sunflower hounds.

The Nuthatch was back in our garden tonight, but he didn't seem to be as fussy as yours! From Findlay
