Hanging baskets.................................................... I need to do one this year

Still sorting through the images... I have found a few with some wonderful memories.

2005 and I was so proud of my new little garden.
I have always enjoyed hanging baskets ... full of flowers buy they do need a lot of attention.
A few gallons of water every evening when I get home from work.

It was well worth the effort.

This was 2005 and my first summer in my current home.

My best friend Billy had settled in to his new surroundings quite well.

This was my effort in 2006... I have searched through my images and can't believe I haven't taken any pics of my hanging baskets for over five years... nature and my walks have taken over.
I lost Billy during March 2006... he loved to roam but didn't understand how to cross the road safely.

Billy... top cat and my friend for nearly seven years.

He enjoyed his time with me (I hope) and six years later I still have tears in my eyes writing this.
I haven't had a pet since... and probably never will again... as I have already said a top cat was Billy.

It's not meant to be a sad post... but I do need to do a hanging basket this summer.

  1. I keep wanting to get some of those brackets that go over the top of the fence and hang some flower baskets. Cute kittie.

The hanging baskets are truly great. Mine always look so shabby by comparison. Well done.

  6. I used to have a dog, her name was Tarri, she was the most pretty of things. She lived for 16 years, unfortunately, she was not well, and I had to choose whether put down or let her suffer, well, I put her down. Every day I think of her. So, I'm very much like you Andrew.

  7. We had a cat who looked very much like Billy, Iris. Soon after Sinbad joined the family Iris took ill and died years before his time. Iris was more my wife's cat and she never got another. As for me, I cannot be without them. My cat Pink met an untimely end the same way as Billy and from then on I vowed no more outdoor cats. Sinbad is indoor all the time and only out with me on trips with a long lead attached. We're both the better for this arrangement. Your flower baskets are beautiful and I like your backyard space you have. A little retreat from a hectic day I am sure.

  13. Sorry to hear about Billy. My best buddy Oscar (tabby cat) died a couple of years ago and I, like you, get choked up when I think about him.
Your baskets are beautiful, I'm sure you will have not problem coming up with another great one based on past .

  14. lovely photos every one Andrew. Yes looking over the memories can stir the emotions that's for sure. A beautiful cat and you lived well together, that's the main thing to hold onto; we have no choices. Your hanging baskets are outstanding to have so many varieties in the same one thriving.

  18. get another cat, it is like saying, i would not have another person as a friend because they might die, there are so many wonderful cats that need a home and someone to love them and be their friend. i love those hanging baskets, they look like and entire garden on one basket.

  19. I endorse your desire to have a hanging basket, though I know what thirsty fiends they can be (we had to give up on the idea, the sun blasted them so much we couldn't keep up). Now, as for Billy, what a beautiful cat, and it's wonderful that you have these photographs by which to remember him. (You know, he might not mind were you to invite a new cat in. After all, as all cats do, he has to know that there's no better company than a cat--and no one so equipped as a cat to understand and enjoy a garden.)

  21. I can see why you loved Billy! And I too love the lushness of hanging baskets. My dad used to grow prize-winning ones. One time my mom laughingly (sort of) complained to a friend "Charles spends more time with those baskets than he does with me." Her friend(?) said "maybe you should hang yourself." 'hmmmm. It was funny back then!

  26. You have quite a talent for arranging lovely hanging baskets, Andrew. They really enhance your lovely garden space.
After Hargrove, my 18-year-old cat died, I didn't think I'd have another. But my husband brought home two kittens and they are so delightful. There are so many cats that need homes.
    Billy was a grand-looking cat!

  27. I couldn't get a hanging basket to live, I've tried, watering, and watering, but I always fail. I bet you miss your little friend. It's always hard to lose a friend. I lost two cats last year. It was hard.
