My little garden Robin thinks he's a tennis ball.................................................

We had a really cold night last night and woke to see a lot of frost and ice in the garden.

My garden Robin with the white tail feather is all puffed up to keep himself warm.

By puffing up his feathers so they almost stand on end he traps warm air next to his internal organs.
Air is an excellent insulator so even a few millimetres under the feathers will keep him nice and warm.

I think he looks a bit like a worn out tennis ball.

The other day I was thinking about all the birds and other wildlife here in the States while that weather vortex things swept down out of Canada. I wonder how they all did. Maybe like this little guy.

Better tell your cute Robin to stay well clear of us here in Melbourne, we're in the middle of the Australian Open and I would hate for him to find himself in the middle of a tennis match for real!
