I have shared the story of the wreck on my local river before.
A link to the post here: River Weaver Shipwreck
My local river the Weaver flows through some beautiful countryside... between industrial towns.

The local chemical industry is on the wane... and nature is taking over.
The abandoned swans nest is close to the wreck... it's easier to see from land than from the river.
It was such a shame to see the nest abandoned a few days ago.

"Chica" the last name this old craft had has become home to a variety of birds.
Swallows were flying in and out of it's portholes and this Grey Wagtail was up on deck.
The Chica is in a bad state of decay... but as it isn't in the way it's being left to rot where it lies.
The cost to British Waterways is far too high to have it removed.
The decaying ship does make for some good images... especially with a little Pied Wagtail on board.

The glass is still in the rear portholes.... about the only part of the vessel that's still in place.
The reed beds alongside the wreck are alive with wildlife... Reed Warblers...
...and Sedge Warblers are abundant this year.

glad nature is putting it to good use!
ReplyDeleteGlade to see the wildlife taking over. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteLovely serie!
ReplyDeleteWell done!
Some brilliant birds enjoying the old boat. That Reed Warbler picture is so good. From Findlay
ReplyDeleteGood to see that the old boat offers refuge to so many birds!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and a very interesting old boat wreck. I heard this week that the recent big tides have again exposed a boat that was wrecked years ago on the coast close to here. It also is too expensive to totally remove.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it being being put to good use. Pretty birds and great photos.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely backdrop for wildlife photos. An excellent series
ReplyDeleteI like the old shipwreck! It would have been nice if it could have been removed, but for photo purposes, I think it's great. There are far bigger wrecks than that in the world's waters. The last two warbler photos are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteGood to see nature making use of our rubbish.
ReplyDeleteI hope any contaminants contained within the vessel have been long removed.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture of this run-a-ground vessel.
Well Chica sure has seen better days but how great for a photo op. Glad nature is making use of it as well.
ReplyDeleteLove those little feathered beauties but I'm a sucker for peeling paint and rust so the boat shots have taken the show for me.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots Andrew! What a gorgeous sky overhead too.
Oh I find this old wreck simply fascinating. Wonderful Andrew.
ReplyDeleteExcellent shots of the cute little birds.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful series.
ReplyDeleteI would imagine the underwater benefits are present as well. Great shots my friend. xo
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures Andrew.
ReplyDeleteThat wreak is a great place for photos. Rusty cool.
ReplyDeleteFascinating photos. Nice to see pix of British birds I only know by name.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it's great for the birds! Rust is a terrific subject for photos too!
ReplyDeleteHi Andrew Just discovered your blog.I love that boat. You could have many different shot from that alone but it was lovely to see the grey Wagtail. Margaret
ReplyDeleteIts an ill wind they doesn't blow some good. The old wretch is at least useful for the birds. Lovely shots of the warblers Drew.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting set of photos and I love the sedge warbler.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful shots. So good to see nature taking back her own domain.
ReplyDeleteVery nice and interesting shares~
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos for SWF!Well done!
ReplyDeleteNever saw a ship wreck, I found your post this week totally awesome. I like how the birds have found it. Antique adds to the beauty of the landscape, I think.

Terrific captures and, yes, I'm glad, too, that nature is putting it to good use! Lovely skies and the little birds are delightful!! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteLove the bird shots. The "sinking ship" is a very interesting and creative subject. Good job. Mickie :)
ReplyDeleteThe old boat looks a bit sad, but the pics are wonderful.
