Bittern............................................................................. Budworth Mere 2010

I have just read the post Findlay Wilde made earlier today about him seeing a Bittern at Budworth Mere from the hide in Marbury Country Park a link here:  Wilde About Birds
My day hasn't been as productive but I do have a little video clip of a Bittern taken from the same spot a couple of winters ago...  a rare bird to see in the UK numbering only a few hundred.

I was in the right place at the right time to capture this clip and was so lucky my little camcorder has a 41x zoom.... the Bittern was on the far side of the mere just like Findlays.
It was one of my first ever video clips... and because of the bird one of my best memories.

A great bit of video to have. Unfortunately Findlay and I only got to see the head and neck. Last year we saw a wing, so I think 2013could bring us the full bird :)
And sorry about the previous deleted comment, Findlay didn't log off earlier, so my comment appeared as him.

Congratulations on filming a rare bird! We have a species of bittern here and they're rather shy.

Quite a coincidence, but this morning I saw the very first American Bittern on my local patch. I have been visiting it regularly since 2004 and this one suddenly flew out over the lake in front of me. I reached for my binoculars and got a good look for about 3 seconds before it dropped down into high grass along the shore. No photo, so you will just have to take my word for it!

I would really love to see the whole body. I am going to try again at the weekend. Thank you for posting the video again. From Findlay (the football final date has not yet been decided, but I will tell you when it has).
