The image below was taken by my friend using my little Casio point and shoot... it's a beautiful landscape.
The scene shows just how sprawling the deer park is at Tatton... and it's only a couple of miles from Manchester International Airport.
Red Deer stags of all ages were strutting their stuff... the males are sexually mature at 2 to 3 years of age but are usually over the age of 5 before achieving success.

A Royal Stag has twelve points or more on his antlers... this one was looking so confident...

A big boy... but probably not quite up to scratch when the rut starts...
... roaring loudly as he tries to make his presence felt.
These two will be hoping to attract at least a few of the ladies during this years rut.
It must be this autumns fashion... they toss the grass and rub their antlers against branches to keep them in tip top condition.

My money is on this guy... the rut will start soon.

I just pray they manage this herd or you are going to find some horrific images to film once they start the rut. It is a problem shooting deer in a public park.

ReplyDeleteOh wow! These are amazing photos and also video. I LOVE it that you were able to get such great shots! We were recently at the Mogollon Rim and so hoped we'd see elk, but we didn't...still, we could hear them bugling in the trees.
