More of the Red Deer................................................. @ Tatton Park Cheshire

The image below was taken by my friend using my little Casio point and shoot... it's a beautiful landscape.

The scene shows just how sprawling the deer park is at Tatton... and it's only a couple of miles from Manchester International Airport.

Red Deer stags of all ages were strutting their stuff... the males are sexually mature at 2 to 3 years of age but are usually over the age of 5 before achieving success.

Striking a pose for the camera.

A Royal Stag has twelve points or more on his antlers... this one was looking so confident...
...a magnificent beast.

A big boy... but probably not quite up to scratch when the rut starts...

... roaring loudly as he tries to make his presence felt.

These two will be hoping to attract at least a few of the ladies during this years rut.

It must be this autumns fashion... they toss the grass and rub their antlers against branches to keep them in tip top condition.

I've added this short video clip to show some of this behaviour...

...and you can also hear how close they are to the airport.

"Does my head look good in this"

My money is on this guy... the rut will start soon.
A shame due to my knee I may miss the best bits of this years action.

  5. Great shots.
They collect vegetation on the antlers to make them look bigger.
I just pray they manage this herd or you are going to find some horrific images to film once they start the rut. It is a problem shooting deer in a public park.

  29. Andrew, so nice to see you - it is very easy to loose each other in this blog-world. Everything is fine, we are travelling between Norway and Poland - and life is kind with us. I hope you can say the same - your images are great - "loudly roaring" especially. Lucky you, again!!

  32. We have them in our back yard and Moose also down the road, over the bush. I live in bear land also. All year round.

They can be dangerous. When they start snorting. Go fast.

They are very big and powerful.

I am a wee bit nervous for a walk.

I carry a stick alot that will do me.
