It's almost been a nice day.
It wasn't the weather... it was raining as I took these images on my way home from work.
The fields full of rapeseed give off a wonderful smell of honey.
The trees are still looking in winter mode.
I took this image on April the 24th last year... I can't see 2012 catching up in just ten days.
Just sharing an image from last year that I had forgotten about.
Some wonderful memories found when looking back.
The highlight of my day... my first Swallow of 2012.
It was too far away to capture with my point and shoot... this one is from last year.
Friday the 13th... no worries... then guess what?
As I was writing this post my oven gave up the ghost... I must have tempted fate.
A superb images, the Swallow has not ventured in our domain, in 2011, they were here in early March. Now, I think it is late.

ReplyDeleteWell, over here, when the oven gave out (we'd just got back from vacation, too!), we turned to one another and said: Is it too early to get out the grill?
ReplyDeleteAs for the rapeseed, how beautiful & I would love to know that fragrance. And as for the swallow--not long ago I was up at our beautiful Buttercup Farm and ran into a birder (the real sort, like you and John at Hedgeland Tales, not like me!) looking for his first tree swallow. As we stood looking out, I saw one!!! That was pretty thrilling. Congrats on your first of 2012.

ReplyDeleteThe rapeseed field is beautiful! I doubt that tree will be catching up anyway soon, I'm predicting mid to late May. Sorry about your oven, hope you can get it fixed.

Great to hear that you've seen your first Swallow of the year Andrew. Our first one popped up a couple of days ago and have now built to a flock of five. As for Friday 13th I was born on that date and I think I turned out ok......

ReplyDeleteyou call it rapeseed and we call it canola. I've seen it growing in Cowra, inland N.S.W, and looking so glorious. With a touch of sun too, makes such a difference :) doesn't it? I enjoyed the photo with the deciduous tree waiting for its new leaves. Nice to see your first swallow for the season. Hopefully your oven is a simple fix, a new fuse?

I hope this isn't too early. A couple of years ago, they died in their thousands in France because they were too early. Broke my heart.

ReplyDelete..it happens the world over, the chorus wakes us; thank heavens we embrace the title 'birders'. Guess this is how the phrase "Wake up call" came about? That first little duck photo in the canal is sweet; good when you can get up close like that. Such a beautiful walk around there; green grassy verges …people enjoying their ventures along the water. Loving the irridescent Mallard, and the beautiful Chiffchaffs (a delightful name!). I'm still learning when certain birds migrate b ack and forth …
