Collared Dove in my garden............................................................................

This Collared Dove has been hanging around my garden for a couple of weeks...
...until a few days ago he/she had a mate.

I can't make my mind up if it's lost it's mate and is sorrowful.

Gazing up at the sky it does seem to be away with the fairies.
The images are taken through my double glazed windows... hence the reflection.

On Saturday afternoon although still alone... I thought it looked a bit brighter.

 Mmmm! maybe not...
...seeing him keep dozing off made me think again....

Could he be an expectant father and had done the nightshift sitting on the eggs.

Sunday didn't bring much improvement... he still looks deadbeat.

Yesterdays constant rain won't have helped at all.

Collared Doves only arrived in the UK during the the mid 1950's having invaded Europe from Asia.
They are now one of our most common birds.

so pretty and I love to hear the cooing. they sit on the wires over our yard and coo and coo, i just love it. they are not the smartest of birds, they don't have any fear of cars or dogs or cats.

I think that they are the best, great for you and to photography.

We have a pair of collard dove visiting our feeder every day. I originally thought Eurasian but my guide does not show them on the west coast of the U.S., so now I think Ringed Turtle Dove as they are quite pale. I like the picture with the eyes closed.

Beautiful shots of dove.

that's what I was wondering too Drew, if the other half mightn't be sitting on the nest. I guess you'd expect to see them both together at some time but maybe after a certain incubation period has lapsed...time will tell!

Beautiful shots, Andrew! I'm so used to seeing Mourning Doves. We don't have any other species around here.

Are these the Turkish Doves that are thriving like pigeons here too? I think so.

Once any member of the pigeon family arrives, it's there to stay. This is one of the prettiest doves I've ever seen. Really nice series of shots.
