This Collared Dove has been hanging around my garden for a couple of weeks...
...until a few days ago he/she had a mate.
I can't make my mind up if it's lost it's mate and is sorrowful.
Gazing up at the sky it does seem to be away with the fairies.
The images are taken through my double glazed windows... hence the reflection.
Mmmm! maybe not...
...seeing him keep dozing off made me think again....
Could he be an expectant father and had done the nightshift sitting on the eggs.
Sunday didn't bring much improvement... he still looks deadbeat.
Yesterdays constant rain won't have helped at all.
Collared Doves only arrived in the UK during the the mid 1950's having invaded Europe from Asia.
They are now one of our most common birds.

so pretty and I love to hear the cooing. they sit on the wires over our yard and coo and coo, i just love it. they are not the smartest of birds, they don't have any fear of cars or dogs or cats.
I think that they are the best, great for you and to photography.
Loved going through your shots! Cute little dove!
What a cute dove, don't think I've seen this type before. Like the close ups of it. Have a great evening.

Great photos! This dove is so sweet! I never seen it around here...:)
we're beginning to see them here now too. they're beautiful. i bet his mate is busy nesting...
Andrew, I so enjoyed your little tale of the dove! Keep us posted as to the rest of the story. :)
Excellent photos!
We have a pair of collard dove visiting our feeder every day. I originally thought Eurasian but my guide does not show them on the west coast of the U.S., so now I think Ringed Turtle Dove as they are quite pale. I like the picture with the eyes closed.
Lovely photos of this dove. I hope its mate turns up soon.
Almost the same as our Mourning Doves!! Boom & gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Wonderful captures.. wonderful series. We can but guess of the why behind its sleepiness.
What a beautiful sight to behold in your garden. I adore doves.
I love the third shot - great DOF! Funny commentary . . . :)
so stupid....I can´t remember the swedish name. :( It is a nice dowe but I rarely see it.
Beautiful Dove, maybe it has a nest somewhere in your yard or nearby. It certainly looks peaceful to me!
Beautiful dove and you have captured it brilliantly. I hope it perks up.
Great photos of the lovely Dove! I hope his story has a happy ending!!
What a sweet bird....I hope he is just taking it easy and dozing because he can....Wonderful Photos Andrew.
He must be a male - lol! I have been out of town but I'm back! sandie
Oh, those ones of this beauty with his eyes closed have made me sleepy! Nice series Andrew!!
Beautiful shots of dove.
that's what I was wondering too Drew, if the other half mightn't be sitting on the nest. I guess you'd expect to see them both together at some time but maybe after a certain incubation period has lapsed...time will tell!
Great photos and I like your very imaginative commentary!
I like!
Incredibly beautiful picture you show.
Wishing you a good day.

This one looks so clean compared with mine!
Beautiful shots, Andrew! I'm so used to seeing Mourning Doves. We don't have any other species around here.
Yes...he's sad! Lonely...and the rain did not help at all....
But the photos are stunning, man!
GREAT...(the window???...I would not guess if you would not say! I just saw the reflection after reading about it)

Beautiful images Andrew.
Are these the Turkish Doves that are thriving like pigeons here too? I think so.
They are so beautiful and elegant! I have a pair in my garden and love watching them.
Nice post, Andrew!
Lovely birds Andrew.
They always seem so gentle and loving.
Such a pretty, sweet bird! Nice captures.
They are so similar to our Mourning Doves. Nice pics.
Hugs!!!
Nice photos of the Eurasian Collared Dove Andrew. I agree with Theresa. I bet it's mate is sitting on eggs!
Great captures! I like your blog...you capture so many neat things!
A lovely little thing it is too. A pity about it's matrimonial difficulties, I do hope it cheers up again.
Thanks for sharing these beauties! Great pictures.
My daughter loves to listen to the doves!

I feed them in my back yard and never tire of their sweetness
I love these, what a great capture of this beautiful dove. I have a pair and I love to hear them.
Once any member of the pigeon family arrives, it's there to stay. This is one of the prettiest doves I've ever seen. Really nice series of shots.
Lovely dove and great photos. This Collared Dove would be a newbie for me. Thanks for sharing, have a wonderful weekend!
What a lonely dove.
They are indeed fantastic shots, and the dove is so very pretty!
I took some photos of the dove through my glass window too yesterday, but mine was not so good :-(
Awww, now you've made me a little sad this morning, worrying about your dove. Lol.
Great shots -- such a pretty bird, Andrew. Thanks for sharing at YSB this week. :)
Beautiful and detailed close-up shots. Nicely captured!
He's a pretty bird- haven't seen one of those around here.
Hope your dove is not longer alone....
I have a family of them in my garden, parents with three youngsters. And I love to look at them.
