Times are hard.. fuel prices have never been so high.. is this car the answer?

Fuel in the UK is currently about £1.38 a litre... $2.16 a litre.
When I started to drive in 1973 I could purchase a gallon of petrol for about 35 pence..that's about 55 cents.....Yes 35 pence a gallon wonderful days.
That's 4.55 litres for 35 pence.... 7 pence a litre or 11 cents in US dollars.

We now pay about £6.28 a gallon... $9.84.

As I walked home from Sundays walk along my local river this little car drove past.

His fuel bills will be quite low (it's a trike... pedal power)... at least he can't carry any passengers.
Is this the transport of the future in the UK.
 It made me smile anyway.

Yep, sort of puts the nearly $4 per gallon we're paying here in the U.S. in perspective.

I've never seen anything quite like it, it looks like a banana; amazing. I've seen solar-cars for people who do those long marathons for charity etc. It would be cheap on fuel for sure. Petrol here lowest today 139.5 litre/highest 155.5 litre. Cheapest day of the week Wednesday. Great that you can do walks by the river without fuel costs involved.

that's pretty cute, but i'd not want to be on the road with it. we're getting closer to $4 here in Texas. guess i should stop complaining...

I thought the same as Carole. Banana car! Amazing. :)

Perhaps his fuel bill is nil - looks like he's pedaling!

I can't see me driving one of those lol

Our fuel prices are outrageous; it's nearly all tax.

Seeing what holdingmoments said about it being all tax, now has me wondering what really the comparison of fuel prices are between the U.S. and G.B., taxes aside. I just pay the price. Why leave $$$ behind for the kids to squander? Life is short and I plan to enjoy what time I have left. The kids then can have what $$$ is left over...if any.

This is something I would definitly try, I like it.. it's cute!

I just filled up yesterday and paid $3.47 a gallon here in Tennessee U.S. I feel pretty lucky to be living in an area where taxes are very low and gas is still affordable!

I will drive a banana if it gets better gas efficiency, no problem. But yes, we are SO bitchen about $4 a gallon gas prices state side. It is the oil companies world apparently.

makes me smile to and i would like to drive it, just once to see what it is like. our fuel is 3.89 gallon now and climbing steadily. yours is more than double what ours is. all this fuel price is crazy.

is that a gas driven vehicle or a petal car? I cant understand Why Electric Cars are not rolling of the assembly line? The technology has been around for decades, rotting on shelves while the big oil rolls in the dough! its crazy.

Great pictures of that groovy car! I've got my own solution to the cost of fuel: I don't drive!

Cute little car, reminds me of a yellow jelly bean; don't think I would feel very safe in it though.
Our gas is around $1.40 a litre here in Canada now (there are about 4 litres to a gallon for anyone doing the calculation) but that is still less than what you are paying.

Darn that's cute! I want one. Some people here use golf carts or three-wheel bikes b/c they can't ride real bikes anymore (old people, even older than me if you can believe it!)....it's even legal on some streets to use golf carts. But I'd rather have that yellow pedal car.
