Some more "re-found" images... this time it's 2009.
I had a few days holiday on the lovely island of Anglesey in North Wales that summer.
Cemaes Bay Harbour
The old lifeboat in the harbour is the restored Charles Henry Ashley.
It was originally "on station" here between 1907 and 1932.
Retired in 1932 the craft was in storage until 1960 when it was fitted with a diesel engine and used for pleasure trips. Removed from the sea it then became an attraction at a holiday park.
Obtained by the Amlwch Heritage Trust in 1997.
Funds were raised over the next few years and in 2006 the renovation commenced.
Completed in 2008 the lifeboat returned to Cemaes Bay in May 2009.
My visit was in the first week of July that year and this wonderful old lifeboat fully restored was a delight to discover...
It was interesting to read that while on service between 1907- 1932 it was only called out seven times.
Cemaes Bay is a beautiful place to visit stay... and home to the most northerly pub on the island.
Just a few miles along the coast is Cemlyn Bay home to the wonderful tern colony I have shared before.
All these images were taken with my little point and shoot and these last two less than a hundred yards from the harbour wall... It's a lovey quiet place to visit... don't tell anyone I want to keep it that way.

ReplyDeletejust delightful Andrew; beautiful scenes you captured and our point and shoots come in very handy don't they? The harbour/boat scenes make me think of series of a leading restaurant owner shows around Cornwall.

ReplyDeleteRather than dry docked, is this just when the tide is out and they all will be floating again at high tide? The bay looks flat and shallow enough for this to happen it seems.
