My last post was supposed to be this post.... but I just had to share the Long-tailed Tits that had just visited my garden... Back to Shakerley Mere and the lovely bench by the car park.
The back of the bench from yesterday... we have some wonderful carved benches throughout all the woods in mid Cheshire. I have shared them before but will redo the post soon.
A white goose was making quite a racket... the Canada Geese were keeping him company.
Always on the lookout for children with bread... to feed the ducks.

Birch Polypore fungus growing on this tree alongside the water.
Goosey goosey gander... the white goose was also enjoying all the free food the kids were sharing.
His antics really made me smile
Domestic geese have beautiful blue eyes...
Ocean blue... according to a site I googled.
The mere is also a popular spot for anglers.
Fishing is considered to be the most popular participation sport in the UK.
Kettles on the boil all day and comfortable shelters.
They don't even sit holding their rods... these have electronic bleepers to let them know if they have a fish.
It's a great little place to visit if you only have an hour or so to spare.

I know what you mean about juggling posts. It's hard to keep them all squared away. That looks like a lot of fun. I have my tent and would so much like to use it. The weekends just fly by! Hope you have a good week.

ReplyDeleteUs anglers tend not to read the No fishing signs. That usually means that there are big fish about that they dont want you to catch
really wonderful photos, the front of the fish is as great as the seat side was. i don't mind the tents but fishing gear that beeps is a little much for me, fishing is supposed to be fun, doesn't look that way to me. love all the birds, really nice photos today.

OK I love this post too! A great place to introduce kids to nature (and we'd like it too -- the easy walk for little legs would work for old ones too!)
ReplyDeleteNO sign can keep any gull from doing what it wants to do! (I'm kind of convinced that gulls are going to take over the world one day.)
I forgot to mention before that I had to look up the word "mere" -- (we don't speak the same language sometimes ;>)!)
This post really made me smile. I never knew about those blue eyes. The next time I'm at the local pond, I will check this out. Oh how I wish our pond was as beautiful and entertaining as yours!

ReplyDeleteElectronic gizmos on their fishing poles to let them know they have a fish on the line? Oh what is this world coming to anyway? That ain't fishing! Movin' on, I like your phtoos of the domestic geese. Just goes to show all birds are worthy of photographing. Good for you Andrew.
