Latrigg Fell........................... a view over Keswick

On Tuesday morning I took the path on the old railway line from Keswick Railway Station (the line closed in 1972) and headed east towards Threlkeld.
The station buildings are now part of the hotel behind and the platform is still there.

Keswick Railway Station
The platform has been overrun with vegetation
The trackbed is now a public right of way for walkers and cyclists and is very popular.

Latrigg Fell my aim for the day is not very high at just over 1200ft but the views from the top are fantastic.

The River Greta meanders alongside the track
The River Greta runs alongside the old line and is crossed and re-crossed a few times over bowstring bridges as it snakes it's way along the valley.

I had never seen the Greta this calm before, it's hard to believe this pretty little stream causes mayhem and floods in Keswick the latest being in November 2009.

Leaving the railway line after a few miles I began to climb uphill towards Latrigg.

Skiddaw near the summit of Latrigg
It wasn't long before the views began to unveil the beautiful landscape.
At the edge of a steep slope the lovely town of Keswick lay below with Derwentwater beyond.
The view from the top was lovely and I could make out the Moot Hall that stands in the market square.
A circuit of Derwentwater is on the agenda for tomorrow.

My downhill walk back into town was blessed with sunshine.
I have added a couple of images of Keswick showing how low the Greta was today and from the floods of November 2009.

You can just see the River Greta centre right.
19th/20th November 2009 the same corner as the image above.
Hard to believe it's the same place.
