The world's first postage stamp......................................... is 175 years old.

May 6th 1840
The worlds first postage stamp was issued 175 years ago... the penny black

I am a keen collector of pre-decimal stamps of GB and I have a few penny blacks in my collection

Printed in sheets of 240 each stamp has check letters in the lower corners... AA to TL
I only collect penny blacks with the check letters AF... my initials
Happy Birthday to the oldest stamps in my album.

  5. I've always been fascinated by stamps. As a child I think it was one of those hobbies many children tried for a while. You used to be able to buy packets of foreign stamps quite cheaply. Never had anything as exciting as a penny black though.
