The world's first postage stamp......................................... is 175 years old.

May 6th 1840
The worlds first postage stamp was issued 175 years ago... the penny black

I am a keen collector of pre-decimal stamps of GB and I have a few penny blacks in my collection

Printed in sheets of 240 each stamp has check letters in the lower corners... AA to TL
I only collect penny blacks with the check letters AF... my initials
Happy Birthday to the oldest stamps in my album.

You have "a few penny blacks" in your collection! You must have some stamp collection!

I've always been fascinated by stamps. As a child I think it was one of those hobbies many children tried for a while. You used to be able to buy packets of foreign stamps quite cheaply. Never had anything as exciting as a penny black though.
