Stamford Military Hospital 1917.............................................. Dunham Massey

We had a lovely day out yesterday (Sunday) at Dunham Massey... the weather was fantastic

I have posted about Dunham Massey before... it's a grand stately home now run by the National Trust.
A link here:  National Trust

This is how one of the rooms usually looks.. I took this image a few years ago.

This is the same room today... during the First World War the house became a military hospital.
They have recreated how it would have looked from 1917 through to the end of the war.

Actors roll play wounded soldiers and nursing staff.
The players don't interact with the public... they are living life one hundred years ago.

There a lot's of things to see... and listen to.

Outside in the gardens there was a "Teddy Bears Picnic" with lot's of young family's enjoying the sunshine.

...and a Brass Band entertaining the picnickers...

...and of course the Teddy Bears... it really was a grand day out.

It wouldn't do for me but I enjoyed looking at it through your eyes and camera.

Interesting to see how that room was transformed. I like how they created the figures for the doctors and nurses in the operating room. Very unique. Thanks for showing this Andrew.

What fine day for a teddy bear picnic. I hope you didn't forget to bring yours. :-)
So interesting to see the lovely home transformed into a military hospital. Reminds me of Downton Abbey.

Beautiful building! I've never heard of having actors in a setting like this. Pretty cool!

That is something I would be interested in seeing, love the interior of the building with the different scenes and rooms. Looked like a lovely day for sure. Enjoyed the tour.

a wonderful post Andrew; the day looked perfect for getting out there too. I think the role-playing is an amazing interaction - whoever thought up that idea was on a winner I'd say.

Lovely day! It scared me a little when I saw "hospital" in your post title, but as soon as I clicked on the Feedly Link I remembered your earlier posts . WWI .... there were so many casualties. Heartbreaking (as all wars). But we need to remember, and these reenactments are a good way to do that.

I am humming the tune 'Teddy Bear's Picnic" as I type. ;>)
