An ornate "Squirrel Proof" feeder........................ it looks nice but will it work?

I enjoy taking images of the birds that visit my garden so have steered clear of using feeders with squirrel proof cages... until we saw this one on offer yesterday.

Squirrels have been a problem in my garden almost from the day I moved in nearly nine years ago.

I feed the birds therefore I also feed the local squirrel population... the trouble is they also destroy my feeders.

Anything made of plastic is soon chewed through... nuts and seeds are so much easier to eat off the ground.
So the plastic feeders were all discarded and replaced by metal for all the different foods we put out.

So far they have been a great success... the tubes are plastic but they are solidly constructed.
OK the squirrels still get a seed or ten but my need to buy replacements has ceased (fingers crossed).

It was less than half price in the "Autumn Sales" and doesn't look like your average squirrel proof feeder.
It now has pride of place next to the patio... and the Blue Tits love it.
Will it keep the vandals out?... watch this space.

I LOVE IT, it is beautiful and is a decoration to. i can't wait to see if the squirrels find a way. great post, smiled all the way through. last week, bob looked up in the tree at the squirrel eating on an avocado and said I hope you fall off that and break your neck. he did not fall or break his neck.

It is a beautiful feeder. Will be curious to see if the squirrels stay away for sure.

It looks awesome. I would hang it in the garden and we don't even have squirrels! I'm sure the birds appreciate your efforts.

Andrew, there is a time for the camera and a time for the air rifle. A couple less grey squirrels no one will miss.
