New feeders for the garden.............................................. and instant success

I bought a metal perched feeder a couple of weeks ago in an attempt to thwart the squirrels.
It was a small one but it seems to be surviving OK.
My garden feeders are all different and a bit of a mish mash of colours and designs.

While I was out buying bird food yesterday I decided to get more of the metal feeders to give the garden some uniformity and do bit of spring cleaning.

Robin took to the shiny silver feeders straight away.

My first Goldfinch in the garden this year was soon followed by more.

It was raining and I had a flurry of snow this morning so not too many images to share.

Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis)

I also saw a Greenfinch again the first of the year... so it's a big thumbs up from the birds.

I have filled the feeders half and half with Sunflower Hearts and Black Sunflower seeds (the husks still on).
It will be fun to watch which birds prefer which seeds.

Robin appears to be a bit choosier than most... "get in there son!"

I have kept the log feeder though... it's still a big favourite.

I love the one photo of the robin with nearly its entire 'head' in the new feeder. And the goldfinch colors are marvelous.

Sunflower hearts and seeds will certainly spoil those birds Andrew but with those fine photos it's definitely worth it.

I use those kind of feeders for my goldfinch. They cover them when they are here.
Beautiful shots Andrew but I really like your last shot with the robin on your log feeder. It presents your birds in a more natural setting that I really like. Love that last shot!
Hope you are recovering well from your knee operation.

Nice to your goldfinches, they did not visited here this winter.
And robins of course will come after two months here - too long time :)
So very beautiful photos.

Don't you think the Goldfinches are messy eaters, but at least it gives the Chaffinches something to munch on. From Findlay

I'm so envious of your goldfinch. I used to think ours were beautiful (and they are), but just not quite so...

I commend you on caring enough for all of the birds to ensure that they have proper working feeders and a good supply of seed. Your log feeder is still quite the coolest thing to me, I have to remember to show my husby;')~
