The Langdale Pikes from Elterwater.
I have a real passion for walking in the Lake District... it's a fantastic place to visit.
The rock face to the right of the distant hills (The Langdale Pikes) is a fell (mountain)... Pavey Ark.
Pavey Ark (2,297 ft) has a scramble up it's face that can be climbed by walkers with a good head for heights without using ropes for protection.
The route is called Jack's Rake a diagonal fissure up the steep face and with drops of a few hundred feet it does require concentration and is the closest I have been to rock climbing.
It's straightforward on a clear dry day but needs care... Jacks Rake has already claimed two lives this year.
I had intended redoing this walk amongst others this Autumn until my knee problems scuppered my plans.
I have my fingers crossed that my knee recovers fully or days out in the high places will become a thing of memories.

sounds dangerous enough - you don't need to be testing that knee for a while. :)
scares me just looking at it. but it is beautiful. i will leave the climbing of Jakes Rake to brave people like you.
It's wonderful up there but not yet done Jacks Rake - want to do it at some time though
Looks like an interesting path.
Oh I would love to do that. Coming back down would be hard on the knees for me though. Something to consider.
Beautiful country! That climb looks like fun despite the ever present danger. I bet the view would be awesome!
Great! That is highly adventurous.

This is the kind of climbing my husband does in the summers up in Maine and New Hampshire. Me, I only do the easy ones. Love your photos of the mountain, and the blue line of the route really helps the viewer get the feel of the hike. genie
