Friday the 13th.................................................. and the return of a lovely bird

It's almost been a nice day.

It wasn't the weather... it was raining as I took these images on my way home from work.

The fields full of rapeseed give off a wonderful smell of honey.

The trees are still looking in winter mode.

I took this image on April the 24th last year... I can't see 2012 catching up in just ten days.

Just sharing an image from last year that I had forgotten about.
Some wonderful memories found when looking back.

The highlight of my day... my first Swallow of 2012.
It was too far away to capture with my point and shoot... this one is from last year.

Friday the 13th... no worries... then guess what?
As I was writing this post my oven gave up the ghost... I must have tempted fate.

A superb images, the Swallow has not ventured in our domain, in 2011, they were here in early March. Now, I think it is late.

Lovely shots of the rape fields Andrew.
Had a couple of Swallows here in the last few days. Great to see their return.

Well, over here, when the oven gave out (we'd just got back from vacation, too!), we turned to one another and said: Is it too early to get out the grill?

As for the rapeseed, how beautiful & I would love to know that fragrance. And as for the swallow--not long ago I was up at our beautiful Buttercup Farm and ran into a birder (the real sort, like you and John at Hedgeland Tales, not like me!) looking for his first tree swallow. As we stood looking out, I saw one!!! That was pretty thrilling. Congrats on your first of 2012.

Such brilliant yellow. I would love to smell it. Sounds like someone might be going out for take-away this weekend.

The rapeseed field is beautiful! I doubt that tree will be catching up anyway soon, I'm predicting mid to late May. Sorry about your oven, hope you can get it fixed.

Pięknie wygląda żółte rzepakowe pole. Pierwsza jaskółka wiosny nie czyni - oby te przysłowie nie spełniło się i przyszła prawdziwa piękna i ciepła wiosna. Pozdrawiam.
It looks beautiful yellow rape field. The first swallow does not make - saying they would not come true, and true beauty and warmth of spring. Yours.

Great to hear that you've seen your first Swallow of the year Andrew. Our first one popped up a couple of days ago and have now built to a flock of five. As for Friday 13th I was born on that date and I think I turned out ok......

Great captures Andrew - the rapeseed images bring back very happy memories of my 6-week revisit to the UK with close friends in 2009. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog. Happy weekend.

Gorgeous photos again, Andrew! The fields are beautiful. I love the trees in the third and fourth shots. Sorry to hear about your oven. It seems like when it rains it pours sometimes.

Beautiful pictures, I love the swallow, haven't seen one yet this year either. Too bad about the oven, hope it's nothing too serious. :)

you call it rapeseed and we call it canola. I've seen it growing in Cowra, inland N.S.W, and looking so glorious. With a touch of sun too, makes such a difference :) doesn't it? I enjoyed the photo with the deciduous tree waiting for its new leaves. Nice to see your first swallow for the season. Hopefully your oven is a simple fix, a new fuse?

I love rapeseed fields!
No sign of sparrows here yet but seeing one would make my day!

I hope this isn't too early. A couple of years ago, they died in their thousands in France because they were too early. Broke my heart.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Stunning yellow fields! Reminds me of the mustard fields in Rajasthan, India, in January.

I have seen this from the plane...
Coming in to London from Stavanger.
It is so bright and looks pretty, also from above.
Not a common thing to see here.
Actually, I have only seen it in the Essex area.
Love your images!

Beautiful images Andrew, you know you're going to have to stop on your way home from work in 10 days time and show us what the tree actually does look like then!

Saw this image in WEF and thought it wsa mustard in Northern California, where I used to live. Wonderful photo. By the way, got a nasty popup from clicking on the comments button here. Thought you'd want to know.

..it happens the world over, the chorus wakes us; thank heavens we embrace the title 'birders'. Guess this is how the phrase "Wake up call" came about? That first little duck photo in the canal is sweet; good when you can get up close like that. Such a beautiful walk around there; green grassy verges …people enjoying their ventures along the water. Loving the irridescent Mallard, and the beautiful Chiffchaffs (a delightful name!). I'm still learning when certain birds migrate b ack and forth …

Very beautiful shots. The second one is a classic. I have never before seen a complete floral path!
