Chester's squirrels............................................. aren't shy in coming forward

Chester Cathedral is in the heart of the city... and while strolling around the gardens this little squirrel ran up to me demanding to be fed.
On previous visits to Chester I have had them running up my leg... to see what I've got.

Unfortunately I had forgotten to bring any food with me

He must have been hungry because he immediately started to dig and brought up a peanut he had previously hidden (or had just smelt and stolen).

I wasn't alone... lots of people passing by stopped to watch him.

Attracted by the man with the camera .... talking out loud to a squirrel.

I could even walk around him taking images... absolutely no fear.

As I have previously mentioned during my trip into Chester I took over 650 images...
So a mish mash of posts over the next few days...

It's our Queens diamond jubilee this year.
Chester has a famous clock commemorating Queen Victoria's in 1897.

Officially opened in 1899 it is the second most photographed clock in the world... after Big Ben.

It's Chester's most famous structure... once seen never forgotten.

How many cities provide comfort for Feral Pigeons... Chester does... see my post tomorrow..

my home town of Savannah Georgia, had feral pigeons, we spent many hours feeding them peanuts and squirrels to, just like this one. love the clock.

It's a beauty of a clock!
I remember the Silver Jubilee, it was fun to be in the streets of London at the time!
The squirrel is very sweet. I just read an article this weekend in Country Living about how the native brown squirrel is being shooed away by these 'imports'...

Hi Andrew,
Isn`t Chester where Hollyoaks is filmed? ;)
That`s one of the problems with Grey Squirrels, they become so accustomed to us, they are no longer wary. Nice photos though!

how sweet that the squirrel was so trusting and you could take those lovely photographs. Chester's clock is very regal looking; is that a foot bridge up there?

It is far more beautiful that any clock I have ever seen and it puts Big Ben to shame. It is out of this world.I cannot stop looking at it. Your squirrel photos are just the coolest ever. He is one determined little guy. Maybe he thinks you are a squirrel, too. genie

Love the squirrel story. The way he has his paw on his chest begging for food is priceless.
That is a great looking clock too, very photogenic.

Love the squirrel and yes, they can get aggressively tame but one does need to be a little careful since squirrels can carry rabies.
Great place Chester and the clock certainly is a winner but are you certain it is the second most photographed clock in the world? I would have thought that Prague would take that honour.

Looks like you are having a great time enjoying your spring. I must go down and check out the cathedral.

That is the most beautiful clock I have ever seen! I love all the photos from Chester. Wish I could have gone with you. I would really have enjoyed it! The squirrel is hilarious. It's funny how they get so used to us that they have no fear. Great post Andrew!

Aah Chester - I only live about 10 miles away and will soon be there doing my Christmas late night shopping no doubt - that clock is a very familiar sight as is the cathedral!
