A belated birthday present........................... put a great big smile on my face

A rush of a post that I just had to share because it's been a lovely evening.
I received a text message last night from my son telling me they were off to Florida for a couple of weeks.
They fly out from Manchester Airport tomorrow morning.
It's only a few months (Nov) since their last visit to the states....Vegas and San Francisco.

They are staying overnight at his Mums after blagging a lift from her to the airport in the morning.
(free parking on her drive)
It's my Mums birthday tomorrow so we arranged to meet up at her house after I finished work and as it happened we arrived at the same time... she wasn't expecting us so she had a lovely surprise.
81 tomorrow she told us that she doesn't do birthdays anymore... a bit late I have already bought the card.

It was my birthday a couple of weeks ago and as this was the first time I had met up with Craig since Xmas.
They gave me the birthday gift they had bought for me... hence the smile.

They know I love birds... it's a singing clock... on the hour the bird illustrated will sing.
The birds only sing between 6am and 9pm so I should get a good nights sleep.

Cuckoo clocks are wonderful... some wonderful craftsmanship in some of the early pieces.

Believe it or not we actually have a local Cuckoo Clock Museum... a popular attraction I have to admit I have never visited... even though I drive past it every day.

Now I own a singing clock I really should become a patron.
Many thanks to Craig and Eleanor for putting a great big smile on my face.

  2. That's a cool clock. My late husband and I always loved lighthouses. I have a clock with a lighthouse on the face and every hour it makes sea gull and wave sounds.

  7. I love those clocks! I don't have one, but Mom does, and when we chat on the phone, I often hear a bird chime in on the hour. It's the best!

  9. Oh -- where are your kids going in Florida? There is so much of the state that we haven't seen yet, I'm always collecting ideas of places.

  10. I see Spring has arrived at Rambles with a Camera by the new header/banner photo. Enjoy your new clock and don't let it confuse you into thinking there is a Barn Owl outside your window at 6 in the morning.

  12. Happy belated birthday! Love the bird clock. The clock museum is fasinating. What is it about clocks? I have a grandfather clock I received from the company I work for as my 35th service anniversary gift. That was 4 yrs. ago and I find the ticking and chimes when the house is quiet are just so peaceful. Enjoy your new clock! Peace!

  13. Happy belated birthday, and what a great gift! Enjoy. :-)

I remember as a kid going to visit an aunt who lived in California. She had an entire kitchen full of cuckoo clocks. They were all in working condition, and it was pretty wild to hear them all go off at the same time. You felt like you were going cuckoo yourself. lol

She also had quite the player piano collection (I remember at least five of them) and a few other items. Looking back on it now I think she may have had a problem. lol

    That museum would be interesting.
