We had a decent downpour today but as I write (7pm) the sun is shining and it's a lovely evening.
Don't get me wrong I love hot sunny days and warm weather.
My concerns are just about my favourite birding place.... Haydn's Pool at my local nature reserve.
"This double post is about a wonderful August day in 2009"
PART ONE
(The Place)
|
The path towards Haydn's Pool.
A flower meadow to the right and Witton Brook on the left. |
|
The clouds were beginning to look menacing..... |
|
.....but beautiful against the blue sky |
|
The plants in front of the hide at Haydn's had began to take over... left alone because of the nesting Reed Warblers |
|
I was seated taking this image..... |
|
.....stood up taking this one.
No problems with water levels in 2009..... |
|
.....not when the heavens opened like this..... |
|
..... I was trapped in the hide as the rain poured down. |
|
I enjoyed every moment. |
|
Tomorrow I hope to share some of the wildlife images I took at this beautiful place in 2009. |

Looks a lovely place Andrew! I am sure that the water levels will bounce back in time. My patch at Maxey GP is dependant on having decent levels, although at the moment it is a bit high for my liking, especially with autumn passage on its way, hopefully a few waders will drop in!

HI Andrew..looks lovely there....I do hope you have sufficient rain fall to sustain the wild life and growth, but it may take more then the skies can deliver to bring it back to what it was in 2009...lets hope so!!

Nice post Andrew. My recent post on the Napa-Sonoma Marsh had a hide very much like this. This was the first time I had seen one. I think it would work for me, but I made need a bigger lens. It would be okay for birders with their high powered scopes, but not so for a photographer. Maybe, I'll find out someday. I hope your pond survives. It will.
Congrats on your decent downpour. We got a very heavy rain yesterday. Great photos--love the clouds!
glad you got some rain. the downpour from the hide looks like heaven right now!
It's brilliant that the rain has come with a vengeance, I love the rain, but only for a moment. Your pictures are so beautiful, I wish that I could come and to visit Haydn's Pool.
Can't beat sitting in a hide when its hammering down with rain outside. We could do with a bit more weather like that I think if the garden is anything to go by.
Stopped by for a visit. See ya on the other blogs I visit.
Great post. Wish we had that rain. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
What a great sequence, Andrew! The clouds on top look fantastic against the blue sky and I'm glad you've also shown 'your' hide. Looking forward to seeing what you've got from there.
