During my walks this summer I have encountered lots of wonderful wildlife but if you were to ask me what I recall most about summer wildlife in my childhood.
It would have to be..... butterflies.
Speckled Wood (Pararge aegeria)
Meadow Brown (Maniola jurtina) Male
Gatekeeper (Pyronia tithonus)
White-letter Hairstreak (Satyrium w-album)
Comma (Polygonia c-album)
Meadow Brown (Maniola jurtina) Female

They are beauties!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
I always love seeing butterflies on the wing, no matter how briefly. They seem to have been struggling this year though.
Lovely selection Andrew. Never seen the White-letter Hairstreak before.

Just beautiful! Great post.
Hi Andrew,
Nice selection of butterflies there! Good to see a few on the wing now, even after all the that we have had!
Thinking back to my childhood (all those years ago), I remember always seeing lots of butterflies on buddleia, far more than I do now!

Beautiful images, I've never seen the White-letter Hairstreak, is it from where you live?
Thanks Bob...
I saw the Hairstreak while I was staying at Leyburn in the Yorkshire Dales just over a week ago.
Love your butterfly captures!
