A new nest box for my garden..............................

I have plenty of feeders for the birds in my garden but until now I haven't had a nest box so I got myself a lovely natural wooden one from my local garden centre.

I have placed it in a sheltered position in a tree that I can view from my window and I have seen a Blue Tit checking it out but as yet no takers.

The garden feeders though are very busy.

Long-tailed Tits
Long-tailed Tits
I have had Goldfinches every day for over six months and they love the sunflower hearts (but so do the squirrels). I am also getting daily visits from the Long-tailed Tits a beautiful little bird to see anywhere never mind in the garden. My little Robin is singing his heart out none stop as he has for the last few weeks in his search for a mate as I write this.

 I really admire his determination

Those Long Tailed Tits are great garden visitors aren't they Andrew.
I'm sure you'll soon have residents in the nest box.

I wasn't much of a bird watcher until we moved to the country three years ago and I don't know what I'd do without my feeders now. :)
Looks like you have quite a congregation in your yard.
Love the shot of that robin singing away!
I bet some little birdie will find the nesting box an ideal home.

Thanks for your visit. :)

Hello Andrew, your yardbirds do look pretty. I do not think I have seen photos of the long tailed tits, they are neat looking. I hope your new birdhouse has new residents soon.

It looks like good bird house placement. I predict success! It is a wonderful thing about human beings that we purposefully build and place bird houses. I think we might be unique in the animal kingdom in this regard.
Good luck with the project Andrew, I'm looking forward to updates!

That looks like a very nice nesting box - I like the natural wood - and I hope you get tenants in it soon. Nice variety of birds at the feeders too.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to fix a small cam in the nest box? Perhaps you'll be able to see and record the whole process, from building of the nest to the maiden flight of the new generation!

Lovely Long tailed tits. They look a bit different from ours. I never seen that dark band on the head here.

The Robin arrived a week ago, singing happily in the trees. :)

I bet pretty soon you'll have the birds fighting over possession of that handsome box! You have some attractive birds around your yard. I love robins, also long-tailed tits of which I was happy to get some photo on my last visit to Germany.

Andrew, I love this post!!! Thumbs-up to you for adding a nestbox. As a backyard birder it is great to see what you birders across the big pond are attracting at your feeders. You didn't disappoint.:)

I'm sure your Robins and our American Robins aren't related at all, and that ours are named after yours. Either way, not a bad common bird.

What lovely posts, this one and the next. i enjoyed 'walking' through your neighbourhood, with the nice scenery and the fine arched structures.
It looks like you made a better choice than me with your feeders. I love the way the suet attracts so many birds at the same time.
