Carved benches in the Northwich Woodlands.......

A beautifully carved seat (this image was taken a couple of years ago).
Marbury Country Park and the rest of the Northwich Woodlands have some lovely benches beautifully carved out of fallen trees. My favourite though is in Big Wood at Marbury and I was horrified to find it damaged on my walk today. The seat has a lovely carving of a giant acorn at one end and had a rabbit being pursued by a fox at the other. There was also a rabbit and frog on the top plus a mouse. Both the rabbits have gone as has the rear of the mouse and the acorn has taken a bashing.

The bench today the lovely carvings on the left broken off.
The rabbits have gone...a real shame.
It has been in the woods for a number of years and would naturally be rotting away so I like to think that exuberant children have been climbing on the seat and unfortunately the sculpture has broken rather than malicious vandalism.

Toads are the theme of this bench.
A great place to have a rest.
A modern design to this bench.
(rear view) great use of a lovely old log
Another modern look for this old tree....
...very well done.
(another rear view) this old tree has had a lovely makeover.
Many of the designs are of wildlife but a couple of modern sculptures have been added in recent years.
The seats blend in well with their surroundings, give pleasure to children when first discovered and of course are lovely to just sit on and rest.

Mosaic bench telling the story of Anderton...
...lovely addition to the Nature Reserve
A mosaic seat has been added at Anderton Nature Reserve also part of  Northwich Woodlands.
I had a lovely walk today and as it was raining for most of the morning it meant I had the place to myself.

  2. Great benches, but I would expect the talent that carved them is unfortunately passing. Great Swan photos in the previous post. Boom& Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

  3. Those are incredible! Like you, I'd prefer to think old age and weathering has taken its toll rather than vandals...

A shame that nature and humans take its toll, but I guess that was meant to be that way.
