Tufted Duck.........now you see me, now you don't

My sons wedding was on Saturday so this post from Friday is my effort for this weeks
 World Bird Wednesday.

Please feel free to view some images of our wonderful day here.

The Tufted Duck is a lovely little diver......
......oh he's gone!
A lovely couple......
......after you dear.
Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula)
I had a nice walk at Moore Nature Reserve today and the sound of spring was in the air. The Tufted Ducks were showing really well at Birchwood Pool and I spent an hour or so enjoying their antics. Moore NR is next to a landfill site but is very well managed and is a lovely place to visit. It has a great list of birds seen on the reserve including... Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Bitterns and Kingfishers plus some of the rarer Gulls of which there are hundreds due to the landfill site.  A lovely place to visit and only about ten miles from home.

  10. Sounds like a super location Andrew. Get hunting that Lesser Spotted before the folige appears. I think I have more pics of Tufties than anything else but they are a delight to watch.

  13. What a fantastic series! I don't get it though, if I get within 50 paces of a duck, any duck, they move away from me pronto. Yet when I see excellent takes such as these I wonder what is wrong with my approach. Why can't I get a picture of the front side of a duck? Ah well...

  19. Beautiful pictures of the Tufted Duck! The only shots I have been able to get is where the tuft hardly shows up against the neck. Nice post.
