Banksy...................................................................................... art or graffiti?

John of "Sinbad and I on the Loose" who I now consider a friend (you will have to ask him if he thinks the same) has just posted an image of graffiti sprayed on a wall in his town.
The image was stenciled.

This style of graffiti art in the UK is synonymous with an artist named Banksy.
His dark humoured work is inspired by modern politics always carrying some form of ethical message.

Banksy's first artwork appeared in urban areas of Bristol throughout the 1990s.
After making the transition from spray cans to stencils his reputation grew  with his work starting to appear in areas of London.

Combining a unique stencilling technique with his views as a political activist  his reputation has escalated over the years to a point where he is now regarded as a common household name.

Since then he has travelled the globe leaving his mark in major cities worldwide.

Banksys' art images are all over the internet... just google Banksy to see more.

fabulous set of imagery (and imagination!) if you're going to do graffiti, make it artful, at least. :)

Welcome to Monday Mural. Love your post. Although Banksy is a well known name in graffiti art, I had not seen a wide number of examples of his work. Now I feel better educated about his work. Wonderful humor displayed. Thanks for participating in this week's round.

Thanks for enlightening me, his mages certainly transcend graffiti. They are, to say the very least, very moving indeed.

Thank you for the hugs my friend, wish I could collect a few in person, although every cyberspace hug is a comfort too.

Amazing! I love every one of them, but I am especially fond of the little girl standing on the stool and the maid. Great post Andrew!

Banksy's art is amazing. We actually had one in Toronto, which was sadly covered up by an overzealous mayor's war on graffiti. I consider his work art to be prized.

Thanks for posting this. I love street art, and Banksy is a hero to me - thoughtful, creative, political and funny. He really took graffiti to a different level. In some ways, he popularized a new movement in art (people compare him to Andy Warhol).

I like some of these, others not so much. The real problem of course is that even if it's a nice one, you don't necessarily want it on YOUR wall...

I do like the stuff that banish does. If I'm right in thinking he done something on a garage wall and the owner of the wall had a portion of the wall removed and put the artwork up for auction.
Crazy people out there

Bansky did a mural at the famously delapidated Packard Plant in Detroit which we searched for while I was still a fireman there. Never did find it!
I love the public nature of Bansky's work. Can you imagine how less effective it would be hanging in a gallery?
Fantastic post!
