Marbury Country Park..................................................................... White Squirrel

It's almost two years since I first saw the White (Grey) Squirrel at Marbury Country Park.

The parkland looks wonderful at this time of year.

My aim for the day today was to (unsuccessfully) capture a Nuthatch in it's classic pose.
On my way back to the car a guy carrying a camera asked me whether I had seen the white squirrel.
I told him I had but it must be at least 18 months ago.
He informed me it had been seen this morning around the car park.

I headed back to my car and low and behold there it was... just a few yards from where I was parked.

I backtracked to tell photographer where it was...
... as I drove off I passed him and he gave me the thumbs up... he'd seen it.

Just record shots...
...and no!... I didn't run it over.

The following text is taken from the Northwich Woodlands website.
(Marbury Country Park is part of the Northwich Woodlands).

"This ultra rare creature is thought to be one of only five grey squirrels in Britain suffering from leucism - a mutated gene which turns them pure white but keeps their eyes black"

One of my favourite places, we usually moor up at the black and white bridge and walk around the whole park and have a coffee if we're lucky!

Glad to hear that he's still hanging around for others to photograph! He's quite a looker as is the autumn colors around him.

Lovely Autumn colours Andrew.
Interesting to see the leucistic squirrel, and to know it's still surviving.
Not far from me there's a thriving population of black(grey) squirrels, I wonder what the outcome would be if they ever met?...[;o)

Oh wow!! Cool!! I wonder if there's a white squirrel here in Singapore, too ... or is this endemic in your area?
