I've just seen my first Swallows this year..........................................................

Travelling home from work tonight I spotted my first Swallows of 2014... only a few but wonderful to see.

These images are from last summer... along the River Weaver.

Juvenile captured during June 2013...
...there were plenty of nests under Acton Bridge swing bridge last year.
Hopefully more of the same this summer.

Such special images to celebrate the return of those beloved winged friends!

The juvenile is out of this world. Never seen a bird portrait like that!

How wonderful! Swallows have been seen in Helsinki too.

Like you, I love the Barn Swallow. They are voracious insect eaters and keep our air clear of mosquitos during the summer months. Our's are not back yet and I am glad because it is still uncommonly cold here. Beautiful pictures.

Drew, you saw your first welcome swallow and yesterday, in the middle of autumn, I snapped one singing it's heart above my head. Nature here is confused and reacting as though it were spring rather than autumn, bulbs popping up and roses in full bloom as well as fruit trees.

It's always great when they stay still for a photo op. Nicely done. :)

Beautiful bird.

lovely to see Andrew and they're great little birds to watch being busy collecting mud to make their nest; they work so darn hard ...one teeny beak-full and then fly from mud-source back to nest ..

I was down on the coast today - large numbers of Welcome Swallows were gathering ready for the trip north! We had at least 100 around the house - 15 minutes later, none!

Nice pictures of your first of the year.
