When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin' Along........................

There is a reason for my blog title... it's a song I used to sing while watching my favourite football team.

I spent a hour in my garden dodging the rain this morning and this was the only decent image I captured.
My lovely little robin redbreast... a lucky charm for the rest of the day?

It's a massive weekend for sport in the UK.

One of the FA cup semi finals of the oldest football (soccer) knock out competition on the planet took place this lunchtime... the competition is in it's131st year and is now sponsored by Budweiser.

I don't have satellite TV so had to go to my local pub to watch the game.
A 12.30pm kickoff far too early to drink alcohol... but I did my best :-)

The team I support and have done all my life is Liverpool and yes it's the home of the Beatles.

The blog title is a tribute to the winning team who play in red... and yes I am buzzing... Liverpool won 2-1.

The other event this afternoon is the world famous Grand National horse race first run in 1839.
An estimated 500 to 600 million viewers watch the Grand National in over 140 countries.

I don't bet but we have all put a pound in the kitty at work for a bit of fun.
£40 divided into £20 for first place £15 for second and a fiver for third.
My horse is called BECAUSEICOULDNTSEE.
I will update the post to let you know how I went on.

Update... the winner was Neptune Collonges in a photo finish... the closest finish ever.
It was wonderful to see a female jockey coming third... she was in the lead over the last fence.

I love the Robin, and Liverpool 2-1, great. The other thing, horse racing I think should be banned, too many horses (beautiful things) have come to a fatal end.

So sorry you had to have an early pint ;>)))... I'm happy to know you are human and don't spend every single second of your time off rambling in the woods! Glad your team won. The robin is adorable.

I do love seeing photos of European robins, so different from those here in the US. That capture of horse jumping is spectacular. Sorry you didn't win but glad you had other reasons to celebrate.

Excellent capture of the robin Andrew! He wears his red a little differently than ours but beautiful just the same.
Sounds like a fun weekend in the sports world for you.
Cheers!

I love sports....but since we no longer have cable TV I need to rely on the computer and live streaming. But I try to catch some over the week.

Andrew, an hour seems a small price to pay for that beauty of a shot!

Well, I'm a little late posting my comment for today, I was at my grandsons soccer game this afternoon. His team won also!

Sounds like you have had a busy, yet fun day, glad your favorite football/soccer team won, but sorry your horse did'nt! Your beautiful little robin redbreast gave you her best and didn't let you down though!

I love the English Robin...so archetypal English to me! ( do we have a version in Australia...I think we do but I certainly don't see them where I live). Glad your footy team won and a shame about the oven!

Love the little Robin Red Breast Andrew, such a sweet little bird. Very happy your football team won and you were certainly in the right place to celebrate!! Photo finishes are so exciting, the Melbourne Cup (Australia's world famous racing event)was won by a nostril hair last year..

I used to enjoy watching the Grand National but I've never enjoyed soccer... I'm a rugby girl myself! ;-)

I do, however, love robins as you probably know. While at my Mum's the other day, there were two of them (mates perhaps) just cocking their heads at me! So, so sweet!)

Your Robin's don't look like my Robin's. Hadn't thought about it, but perhaps they are different in different parts of the world ... Beautiful, none the less. Good luck to you and your co-workers on your horse race betting. No harm done if it is just once in awhile and who knows, you may win. Thank you for the interesting post.
